The Power of Seeing Yourself in a Story
Share

I recently had the chance to share my journey with Bold Journey. In this feature, I talk about the experiences that shaped my path, what inspired me to write, and how Worlds To Discover came to be.
For me, it all started with a question I couldn’t shake.
Where were the girls who looked like me in the stories I loved?
Fantasy and science fiction had always sparked my imagination, but I never saw myself reflected in those adventures. Not as the hero. That realization stayed with me. It’s what pushed me to create stories where Black girls lead, shine, and save the day.
“Every time I sit down to write, I think about the girl who’s still waiting to see herself as the hero. That’s who I’m writing for.”
In the interview, I talk about what fuels my creativity, how I navigate challenges, and what keeps me grounded. I also reflect on how much I’ve grown. Not just as a writer, but as a publisher focused on building a space for stories that empower and inspire.
At the heart of everything I do is the belief that representation matters. Every child deserves to feel powerful, seen, and full of possibility.
If you believe that too, I invite you to be part of this journey.
